During Clann ZĂș's summer 04 tour of Canada they allowed fans to tape from the audience, from the board and use video cameras as well. Declan openly encourages the taping of shows, it is a bit harder to get the rest of the bands opinion on it, I should have asked them when I had the chance but the entire band seems very cool with people taping them. In Thunder Bay, Ontario we had 2 video cameras up front and they played a solid 60 minute set. Declan has even taped the band himself using his own minidisc as early as their first show in 1999.

On May 20th 2004 Ben posted on their official message board:

"Hey, I was curious as to what the band's policy is on tapers? As in, people who bring recording devices to shows and tape them. For that matter, is the band open to letting fans record from the soundboard?"

Later that same day Declan replied:

"I don't have anything against people taping shows. I have taped enough meself. I don't know what the lads think."

Declan also replied to a post I made on June 25th 2004 in regards to getting audio and video of them in Thunder Bay:

"Hi John,im sure there will be no problem from our end Taping the show as long as its for personal Friends use and not for sale. Some people taped the shows in Melbourne and people often minidisc the shows for personal use friends etc .We would also love a copy for ourselves too.. See you there. If the venues have a problem tell them they can email us."

And finally on august 23rd 2004 I created the thread: "Is it ok if I add Clann Zu to archive.org?" in which I explained the purpose of archive.org and how it would be a great way to further get word out about the band. Already knowing that the band was taper friendly I waited for an OK on hosting shows at archive.org. Declan has always been great at keeping in touch with the fans through the board and 90 minutes later he posted this:

"We still have the same stance as before, trading recordings of clann zu live between fans is fine. We realize that we can not tour every where and a lot of people want to hear a live version of the band which is our favorite medium. We would prefer the highest quality to be used but understand that a lot of the time this is not possible. We must stress that these recordings must be for NON COMMERCIAL use only, the copyright remains with clann zu and the recordings must not be made available for sale online or in hard format (cd record etc). Thanks to all the fans who go out of their way to document with photos video and recordings the shows for others."

I was very clear that recordings would be hosted on archive.org stating that "It's a HUGE digital library. They archive "audio" "moving images" and "text" lots of people use it to archive websites but guess what else is becoming a popular item there? Live recordings. As an example Mogwai have 16 shows up there. I wanted to get CZ added to archive.org because they have an insane amount of bandwidth and anyone can use it. Getting a couple shows up there is yet another way to help promote Clann Zu. Here is a list of other bands who have given the OK and have shows up for download." (Provided link) So I read Declan's reply as a 3rd OK on taping shows as well as an OK on hosting recordings at archive.org.
